Kuzushiji Search

Kuzushiji Search is functioned in the database by experimentally adopting the system that is capable of extracting similar character images from arbitrary character regions on images which is a part of the outcome of the project titled "Research into the Conversion of Images into Text and the Detection of Keywords within that Text".
As of April 2017, this feature performs with the following 7 works only; however, we plan to expand the offering to other works based on the demonstration test result.

Bibliographic ID Title of Works
200021644 Kashiwafunabashi (菓子話舩橋)
200021712 Manbouryourihimitsubako Zenpen (万寳料理秘密箱/前篇)
  1. Click the link next to the format_shapes icon that appears at the top of the page when you open the image viewer of the work that is applicable.
  2. In the new image viewer opened automatically, move to a frame where your desired Kuzushiji is found. (The sample image given below is the image viewer of the 7th frame of "Tofu Hyakuchin")
  3. To select a rectangular area in the frame, click the square button (right side of arrow icon) at the top left of the viewer. Click "選択した矩形で検索" that appears when you select the text you wish to search. *To cancel, please click "キャンセル". The search will not work well if characters that span multiple columns are selected. It is because the feature is designed to search column-by-column data. *Here, columns mean rows in the longitudinal direction in Japanese format.
  4. Images of similar characters will be displayed as search results if the steps are properly followed. Please be advised that a single search may take 30 seconds or more (could be a few minutes).
